PORTLAND, Ore. --- Pendleton High School outside hitter Kate Bostwick (Pendleton, Ore.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of Portland next fall, announced head coach Joe Houck on Monday. An Oregon 5A First Team All-State selection as a junior, Bostwick (5-9) was Intermountain Conference Volleyball Player of the Year her senior year.
The two-time team MVP helped the Buckaroos to three post-season appearances during her high school career. Pendleton reached the Elite-8 at the State Tournament in 2007 with Bostwick earning first-team honors on the All-State Tournament team. Bostwick, a three-time all-conference selection, led her team and the IMC in kills each of the last three seasons. She also had the team high in digs in 2008 and recorded seven double-doubles. She once posted a career-high 31 kills during a match against Bend her sophomore season.
Bostwick was named the East Oregonian Large School Volleyball Player of the Year twice.
“Kate is a physical player yet with a finesse-touch who will certainly help strengthen our attack,” Houck said. “The Columbia Juniors (club team) really helped develop her game. Despite being smaller, she plays with a big-kid mentality and with mercurial speed. In my 25-year experience she is one of the three fastest players that I’ve seen.”
Bostwick is one of three high school volleyball players that make up the 2009 recruiting class scheduled to join the University of Portland volleyball program next fall.
