PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland Pilots have signed Madison Smith (Palos Verdes, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent, announced volleyball head coach Joe Houck. Smith, a 5-10 Palos Verdes High School setter, was co-MVP of the California Interscholastic Federation’s Division IAA Bay League during her senior year.
Smith, a two-time team MVP, helped the Sea Kings to a 16-8 overall record in 2008 under head coach Pinter Aguirre. She was awarded the team leadership award in her junior year.
Smith plays club volleyball for the Mizuno Long Beach, where she has developed her game during the last three seasons.
“Madi is bringing with her a volleyball experience well beyond that of a freshman,” Houck said. “Her tremendous background in high level volleyball combined with her exceptional speed will establish her quickly as a force in the WCC. Her infectious personality and passion for the game makes her a welcome addition to the team.”
Smith joins Kate Bostwick and Ariel Usher as the 2009 recruiting class that has committed to join the University of Portland volleyball program next fall.
