Scouting UCLA Bruins
UCLA scored a little over three minutes into its third round match against Virginia last week and never looked back, eventually earning a 3-0 victory at Drake Stadium. Dea Cook put the Bruins up 1-0 on a header off of a corner kick in the fourth minute and Sydney Leroux scored UCLA’s next two goals (42nd, 89th minutes).
Leroux leads the attack with 48 points (23g, 2a) and Lauren Cheney follows with 42 points (16g, 10a). The Bruins have have reached the 20-win mark for the fifth straight season. The school record for wins in a season is 22, set in both 2005 and 2008.
Although UP has scored the most goals in the nation this season, UCLA’s 15 goals in the first three rounds of the tournament is more than any of the seven other remaining teams. Notre Dame has scored 12 while Portland has scored 10.
This Saturday will mark the third time in the last four seasons that Portland and UCLA have met in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Los Angeles. It will also mark the sixth time that the two teams have squared off during the postseason (UCLA leads 4-1). The Bruins have a 7-1 all-time record against the Pilots.
