Cosby Paces Pilots at the Willamette Invitational
SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Robert Cosby raced to a second-place finish in the outdoor 5,000-meter event as the University of Portland men’s and women’s track teams posted several strong performances on Saturday at the Willamette Invitational at Charles Bowles Track.

Cosby’s time of 14:41.64 came on the heels of Concordia’s Eric Burck, who won the race with a time of 14:40.59. Portland senior Mike Quackenbush crossed the finish line in eighth with a time of 14:46.04.

Elsewhere, senior Justin Houck took sixth-place in the men’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:53.79.

In the men’s 10,000-meter run, senior Johnson Lee finished in tenth with a time of 32:12.78.

Portland freshman Jacob Lampe soared to a fourth-place result in the high jump with J1.93m.

The Portland’s women’s team placed three runners in the top ten in the 1,500-meter run, led by senior Adrienne Nova in fourth-place at 4:34.54. Freshman Elizabeth Keaveny finished in seventh-place recording a time of 4:37.38, while sophomore Theresa Hailey came in at the tenth position with a time of 4:39.17.

Junior Natalie Hemphill, competing unattached, won the 5,000-meter event with a time of 16:59.36.

“I thought almost everyone ran great,” Portland women’s head coach Ian Solof said. “We had several people run 25 to 35 second personal records in the 5,000 and some very solid performances in the 1,500. I was particularly happy for Natalie, who ran a perfect race to win the 5,000 and squeak in under 17-minutes.”

Up next, Portland is scheduled to compete at the Summit Invitational in Bend, Ore., on Saturday, April, 11.
