PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland will have a new light emitting diode (LED) video and scoring system for basketball and volleyball this fall. Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., will design, manufacture and install the system for the Chiles Center. The old scoreboard removal process began on Monday, while the installation of the new video board will begin on October 25. The new board is expected to be operational on November 1.
“We’re very excited about this new system from Daktronics,” Portland Athletic Director Larry Williams said. “We hope our fans and corporate partners will see an incredible impact on the game day experience with the new integrated system. We know that the centerhung display will be valuable to us during commencement and other events, as well.”
The centerhung system will include four video displays, each measuring almost seven feet high by nine feet wide. The four displays ensure that every fan in the facility will see game information and sponsorship messages. Featuring 10 mm line spacing, the displays will be able to show live video, instant replays, colorful animations, vivid graphics, up-to-the-minute statistics and eye-catching advertisements.
Two 10-foot-wide basketball scoreboards will also be included in the installations, along with three three-sided shot clocks.
“We are pleased to be working with the University of Portland on this project,” Greg Schmidt, Daktronics Sales, said. “The Chiles Center is a first class facility on the west coast, and we’re proud to be a part of these improvements. What a great opportunity for the university and the fans.”
Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
