So we are off in conference and running. I want to offer a special thanks to all those fans that stuck around for our game! We know those double headers can get tedious and watching almost 220 minutes of soccer in one day can be quite a marathon event, but we appreciate your support. If you were one of the ones who didn’t stick around, try to stay next time so that Merlo can be just as intimidating for our opponents as you make it for the women’s opponents!
Our awkwardly situated in the week game against Gonzaga offered a few delights. After the game, we were treated with our yearly stop to Dick’s, a burger joint in Spokane that focuses on value and tasty food, the perfect combination for poor college students. If you have ever visited this establishment, you also know that it oozes charm (sarcasm can be hard to detect in a blog…). We were cutting it close on time to get to the airport, but all of the veterans agreed that it was worth potentially running to catch our plane for some Whammys, fries (or onion rings as I prefer) and shakes (we made the plane with time to spare by the way). The bus ride from the airport back to campus was filled with a lot of gossip as well, as assistant coach Rob Baarts led a round of grilling each player on the team on their relationship statuses. Let’s just say that a certain person who has an inability to correctly pronounce the letter R is on a bit of a cold-streak. If only humans came with subtitles we (and everyone else in the world for that matter) might be able to translate the incoherent, word-vomit babble that comes out of his mouth. I will send a UP t-shirt or something to the first person to correctly guess the movie I just referenced, I promise (incidentally we have seen this movie a few times on the bus up to UW, due to the incredible taste of former UP player Danny Connors)!
This weekend we will be going going back back to Cali Cali, visiting the stomping ground of Austin Guerrero with games against San Diego and LMU. I heard through the grapevine that there will be some pregame festivities for you fans before our game against LMU on Sunday for those of you interested, including free appetizers. Before the game, plan to gather at 12:30 p.m. at Tompkins Square Bar and Grill located at 8522 Lincoln Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, 90045 but RSVP for the event by contacting Caitlin MacMillen at macmille@up.edu or 503-943-8696.
Below is our 2nd version of UP cribs which, for those of you that don’t know, is a spin-off of a popular TV show on MTV where movie stars and athletes and others give tours of their expansive houses. Our places of residence lack grandiosity, but we try to live within our means.
Sincerely,
Alex Kraus #17
