CHANDLER, Ariz. --- Portland junior Lisa Okazaki fired two rounds in the 70’s to help pace the Pilots at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at Ocotillo Golf Club. UTEP claimed the team title, while Northern Arizona’s Stephanie Kim took home medalist honors.
Kim shot an even par 216 at the three-round, 23-team tournament on the par 72 course. She finished two strokes better than runner-up Britney Yada of Portland State.
UTEP easily won the team title with a score of 883. The Miners combined for a sub-300 score during all three rounds. Colorado State and Northern Arizona tied for second place with an 897, Nevada was third with a 901 and PSU finished fourth with a 902.
Portland combined for a 988 (333-331-324).
Okazaki followed an opening round 84 with back-to-back 78’s, finishing with a 240. She tied for 65th and was UP’s top finisher. Freshman Rachael Fischer was three strokes back of Okazaki with a 243, and then came senior Paige Rachor and freshman Avery Collura, who both shot a 254. Sophomore McKennon O’Rourke capped the Portland scoring with a 260.
The Pilots next conclude the regular season with the West Coast Conference Championships, which are scheduled to take place at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif. The two-day tourney begins on April 19.
