ENTRY #7
Monday, Sept. 27, 2010
Hello Pilots Fans,
Whew this is a whirlwind of a week! We just got back to campus last night (Sunday night) but barely, as it was about 11 PM when I finally arrived back to my house. The results were fairly positive on the weekend, but we felt aggrieved that we still haven’t hit our stride yet and put together a complete, dominating performance that we know we are able to show. Giving up a goal in the last 14 seconds of the game is devastating and the team bus atmosphere was quite tense with anger on the way home as we know we gave the other team an opportunity to steal points from us. The good news is that we don’t have to wait long for our next chance at a win, as we leave tomorrow to Spokane to open conference play against Gonzaga.
The weekend started out rather funny, as freshmen Banner Schafer was struck in the head in practice before we headed up to Washington, resulting in a concussion. Of course while this in itself isn’t funny, Banner, who tends to be a little loopy in the first place, was the source for some interesting comments throughout the weekend, and when he thought coach Rob Baarts was Batman that day at practice, we all knew he was in La-La-Land. There were a few less antics this trip, as I decided to keep my practical jokes to a minimum. Last year, I personally took 20 out of the 24 remotes from each room (even grabbed a few of the coaches) and kept them in my room, forcing my teammates to get up and manually turn the channels on the TV. It was nice to see a lot of parents this weekend however, it seems like 2/3 of the team had parents around, if not more. I know it was because of my advice to take a vacation to Seattle the previous blog!!!
We also experienced what might be the start of an ongoing tradition between Seattle U and UP, with a dinner hosted by Brenden McAleese’s uncle’s restaurant. I think we cleaned them out of pasta for the next month and it’s always a bit awkward eating with your opponents the night before the game. We were going to wait for Seattle U to eat first to make sure nothing was poisoned, but then hunger took over and we decided to put our trust aside to appease our stomachs.
Conference here we come!
Sincerely,
