Pilot Fans ---
Senior night was phenomenal, thank you to all of you that attended. We beat Gonzaga 3-0 thanks to goal scorers Ellen, Dani, and Frisbie. My favorite moment of the game came when Kassi and Emma (both are currently battling injuries) entered the game in the last five minutes. It was great to see all of our seniors on the field and even greater to see Kassi almost score. It was a great evening to finish off the regular season, and a great way to head into playoffs…oh ya, WE ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!
With a record of 9-9-1 we received an at-large bid and will be playing at Oregon State on Friday at 7 (Editor’s note: game will be broadcast live on 800 AM, and live audio will be available here). Earlier this season we played the Beavers and beat them 2-1 in overtime, and I have a feeling that this game will be worth seeing. Now, I know that Corvallis is a little bit of a drive from Merlo Field, but I think that it would be worth the trip. So for those of you who are interested in attending the game, here are the
directions and
information about tickets. I would also allow a lot of time to get there because traffic leaving Portland on a Friday night is comparable to an evacuation of Portland if Mt. Hood was erupting. And don’t forget to bring a friend, wear purple, and put on your game face because it is playoff time.
Because we will be on the road this year for playoffs, that means a lot of downtime in buses and airports. Since homework is not always the most fun means of entertainment, we are forced to find entertainment through other means, like smartphones. In my mind smartphones were the best invention since sliced bread. I have an iPhone and I am happy to say that since I have gotten this phone I have never been bored because if I do find myself in a boring situation, all I have to do is find an entertaining app and play it for endless hours. And because of this, I have created a list of the top ten apps that every smartphone user should have in case of a boring moment or a random need.
1. iLlumination. This is a flashlight app that also has Morse Code and a strobe light. You never know when the power will go out or when you will need a strobe light for a spur of the moment dance party.
2. Shazam. Have you ever heard a song that you liked and not know what the name of it was and you ask everyone within a five foot radius what the name of the song is, and no one knows! No need to worry because this app just listens to the song and then tells you the name of it.
3. Netflix. Have a couple of hours to kill, but you don’t have a computer? Just pull up this app for endless movie and TV show selections. I just finished watching all 148 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and I watched every episode on my iPhone thanks to Netflix.
4. Twitter. This one is crucial because I follow @PortlandPilots so that I know the scores of all of the Pilot’s sports teams.
5. Facebook. As a college student I find it necessary to always be connected to at least two social networking sites at one time, and Facebook allows me to see what all of my friends and family are up to.
6. Temple Run. One of the best games offered in the app store. Just try it once and you will be addicted. See if you can beat Micaela’s high score of 11 million.
7. ESPN Score Center. Keep up to date on all of your favorite sports teams including Manchester United and the Chicago Blackhawks.
8. Instagram. Show your creative side by taking a picture and uploading it. Follow other people and have contests to see who can have the best portfolios.
9. Words with Friends/ Hanging with Friends. Play endless games of a Scrabble like game and hangman against your friends to see who the best is.
10. Pandora. Pick a song and listen to a playlist of similar songs for hours and hours.
Until next week,
Dees
