WCC Announces 2012 Tennis Preseason Polls
WCC Official Release: Men's I Women's
SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference released the 2012 Preseason Tennis polls Thursday afternoon with the youthful Portland Pilots men’s and women’s teams tabbed to finish eighth in their respective polls.
Sophomore Michael Hu Kwo led the Pilots to a 7-0 victory over Montana State last weekend to open the season. The men’s roster features five underclassmen this year, returning Hu Kwo and fellow sophomore Alex Ferrero. The young duo are expected to be the Pilots top two singles players this season.
On the women’s side, three freshman (Milagros Cubelli, Katy Krauel, and Anastasia Polyakova) join the Pilots, who have just two upperclassmen – both juniors – this season. Polyakova competed in the ITA Regionals in the fall season and Cubelli is ranked in the WTA Doubles rankings.
Pepperdine was selected to finish first in both polls.
Portland’s men’s team has a pair of home matches this weekend, hosting UMKC on Friday at 10 a.m. before welcoming Idaho to the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Sunday at 11 a.m. The women’s team has a break from competition and will continue their season on February 10 when they take on Montana at 1 p.m.
