PORTLAND, Ore.--- The women’s tennis team did not have to travel far to play against some of the best competition in the nation. Last weekend, the Pilots took to the court for the USTA Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Portland at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Of the seven other teams competing, five had at least made it to the second round of last year’s NCAA Championship and those five teams all finished the season ranked nationally in the top 20.
Competing in singles action for the Pilots were freshman Saroop Dhatt and sophomore Anastasia Polyakova. While neither Pilot could come away with a match win on the weekend, they gained experience against some of the nation’s best talent and will look to build on it once the regular season begins.
On the doubles side, redshirt freshman Milagros Cubelli and freshman Tori Troesch fought hard against Michigan’s Emina Bektas and Broke Bolendar but fell to the tandem in the end 1-8. This Michigan duo stormed through the doubles draw and wound up being bested in the finals by UCLA’s Kyle McPhillips and Skylar Morton.
