Williams and Winterer Post Top Marks as Track & Field Competes at John Knight Twilight

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Kiyah Williams and Matt Winterer posted the best overall marks in their respective events as the Portland Pilots men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their outdoor season on Friday at the John Knight Twilight.
Williams came away with the victory in the women’s 400m hurdle, edging Oregon’s Anetra Brown in a photo finish. Williams finished with a time of 1:04:05, while Brown’s final mark was recorded at 1:04:06.
Winterer also posted a top finish for the Pilots in the men’s high jump. Winterer tallied a mark of 1.93m to claim the top spot with a comfortable margin over second place’s 1.88m.
Khalil Dumas (23.45) won the third heat of the 200m race while Jared Basset shattered his previous season-best in the 1500m, clocking a 3:50.18 for a second place overall finish. Basset’s previous season-best came at the Oregon Preview where he finished with a 3:53.84.
Back on the women’s side, Kelsey Bestall and Katherine Maus finished second in their events’ respective heats. Bestall recorded a new season-best in the 400m, posting a time of 1:03.29 to earn a second place finish in her heat. Maus, meanwhile, placed second in the triple jump with a 10.86m mark.
Brett Reeves set a new season-best in the javelin throw, recording a mark of 50.51m.
Portland has a pair of big meets coming up next weekend, splitting the squads to participate at the Mount Sac Relays (Walnut, Calif.) and the Oregon Relays (Eugene, Ore.).
