GOLD RIVER, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots women’s rowing team will compete at the West Coast Conference Championships for the first time in program history this weekend at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma. The 2012 Rowing Championships are scheduled for Saturday, with the first of three races set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
“We want to thank our hosts at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center for hosting our week of training,” Portland head coach Bill Zack said. “Practices have been going great and we’re looking forward to some really good racing tomorrow.”
The event will begin with the varsity four race, which will be followed by the second eight at 9:20 a.m. The day concludes with the varsity eight at 9:40 a.m. The Pilots are seeded sixth for all three events.
In 2011, San Diego captured its second consecutive WCC Championship. The Toreros swept all three races to top second-place Gonzaga 36-30. Saint Mary’s finished third, followed by Creighton, Loyola Marymount, and Santa Clara.
