EUGENE, Oregon --- Looking for a repeat All-American season, Jared Bassett took another step closer over the weekend by setting a new personal record in the 3000m Steeplechase event at the Oregon Twilight. Four other Pilots set season bests at the meet, highlighted by Bassett’s top five All-Time mark.
Julia Fonk and Melissa Hasting set new season bests in the women’s 1500m run, with Fonk clocking a 4:33.47, followed by Hasting’s 4:36.54. Fonk’s mark was nearly three seconds better than her previous best at the Stanford Invitational, which had been the team’s best overall mark.
Mark Roetcisoender raced a 22.18 in the men’s 200m dash, shaving time of his previous best of 22.25 en route to a fifth place finish.
The main action came in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase, where Bassett (8:47.09) and Aiden Irish (9:24.44) posted their best times. Bassett’s time ranks fourth all-time in UP history, besting his now-eighth best mark of 8:50.63 at the Mt Sac Relays. Irish was participating in the steeplechase for the first time this year.
With NCAA regionals later this month, Bassett sits in a comfortable qualifying position, owning the fifth best mark in the west region and the 13
th best mark in the country.
GRESHAM, Ore. --- Katherine Maus and Jacob Lampe continued their run of picking up first place finishes this season as the field part of the team participated at the Mt Hood Track and Field Festival.
