Pilots Tame Bobcats to Conclude Homestand
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s won five of the singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the Montana State Bobcats Friday afternoon at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
Portland improves to 4-3 on the season, while Montana State drops its second straight match to fall to 2-2.
The upperclassmen again led the charge, with seniors Sabine Fuchs and Valeska Hoath winning their respective singles matches. While Fuchs cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory from the second spot, Hoath battled hard for a three set victory in the third spot. Hoath knocked off the reigning Big Sky Player of the Week, Paulina Lopez, with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
Freshman Maja Mladenovic and Tori Troesch also continued their impressive play. Mladenovic breezed a 6-2, 6-1 win, her fourth of the season. All four of her wins this season have been straight set victories.
Troesch, meanwhile, cruised in the first set 6-0, before running into a little trouble in the second set. Liana Bates captured the second set, 6-3, to force a decisive third set. As the Pilots had already wrapped up the team win, Troesch took down Bates with a 10-2 abbreviated set.
Sophomore Anastasia Polyakova returned to action in the fifth spot, picking up a 6-4, 7-5 win to help the Pilots win.
Portland finished the homestand 2-2. The Pilots will head to Pullman next weekend where they will take on Washington State and Lewis and Clark State
