Pilots Embark on Road Trip to Face No. 40 Washington State, No. 9 Lewis & Clark State
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s tennis team takes on a pair of ranked opponents in No. 40 Washington State and the ninth-ranked NAIA team, the Lewis & Clark State Warriors.
Portland is 4-3 on the season after splitting a four-match homestand earlier this month.
The Pilots begin the road trip at No. 40 Washington State, playing an 8-2 Cougars team on Saturday at 11 a.m. that has only lost to No. 20 Purdue and No. 44 Arkansas.
Senior Valeska Hoath looks to continue her impressive season, taking in a 6-1 record on the strength of a current four-match win streak. Fellow senior Sabine Fuchs has also enjoyed a solid start to the season with a 5-2 record, anchoring the Pilots’ second position.
Portland needs the underclassmen to continue playing well if the Pilots are going to walk away victorious. With three freshman in the starting line-up, Saturday’s match against the Cougars will provide another challenge to Portland’s improving program.
After their match with the Cougars, Portland heads to Lewiston, Idaho, where one of the top NAIA schools in the nation welcome the Pilots for a 9:30 a.m. Sunday affair.
Lewis and Clark State enters the match with a 2-2 record.
