Portland Cruises to 7-0 Win over No. 9 Lewis and Clark State
LEWISTON, Idaho --- Playing their second match against a ranked opponent in as many days, the Portland Pilots women’s tennis team handed the No. 9 Lewis and Clark State Warriors a 7-0 loss Sunday at the LCSC Tennis Center.
Portland improves to 5-4 on the year, while Lewis and Clark State, an NAIA school, falls to 2-3.
Portland was in control of the match from the beginning by sweeping the doubles matches. Senior Valeska Hoath and Tori Troesch posted an 8-4 win from the top spot, while freshman Maja Mladenovic and Emily Gould teamed up for an 8-2 win.
Rounding out the doubles victory was the combo of Milagros Cubelli and Sabine Fuchs, who cruised to an 8-0 win in their match.
With the doubles point in their pocket, the Pilots fed off their momentum into the singles matches where Mladenovic led the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win from the top spot.
Hoath picked up her seventh win of the season from the third spot with a double bagel win.
Gould, meanwhile, also posted a 6-0, 6-0 from the sixth spot, picking up her first collegiate victory to help the Pilots win their first shutout in almost two years.
The Pilots four match road trip continues next weekend in Seattle, where the Pilots will take on No. 43 Washington and Iowa State.
