Troesch Picks up Win, but No. 36 Washington Defeats Pilots
SEATTLE, Wash. --- Portland freshman Tori Troesch picked up a victory from the sixth spot and sophomore Anastasia Polyakova took her opponent to three sets, but the No. 36 Washington Huskies handed the Pilots a 6-1 loss Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Portland falls back to .500 (5-5) with the loss while Washington improves to 6-4.
Troesch started off the match fast, taking the first set 6-2 before dropping the second one by the same score. The former two-time Pac 7 champion then closed out the match with a 6-4 victory to improve to 5-3 in her first year.
Troesch played a three set match for the third time in as many outings, coming off a grueling match to then-No. 40 Washington State’s Dajana Ognjenovic last week in which Troesch narrowly missed winning.
Polyakova, meanwhile, took the first set 6-3 before Natali Coronel responded with a 6-4 second set. With the team match already belonging to the Huskies, the two played an abbreviated third set in which Coronel edged Polakova, 10-7.
The Pilots resume play tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Nordstrom Tennis Center, taking on the Iowa State Cyclones (1-5).
