AUSTIN, Texas--- In the sweltering Texas heat, three Pilots raced fiercly to finish in the top-20 of the NCAA West Preliminary Round 10,000-meter race.
Senior Kellie Houser fought long and hard during the 6.2 mile race and she finished 20th out of 48 with a time of 36:01.63. The top-12 in the race qualified for the NCAA
Championships held in Eugene, OR from June 5-8. Fellow senior Lyndy Davis finished her decorated career as a Pilot with a time of 37:28.76, good for 40th in the race.
In heartbreaking fashion, RS sophomore David Perry finished the men's 10,000-meter in 14th place- two spots out of a trip to the NCAA Championships. Perry was running strong with the leaders until about 800-meters were left in the race and it became evident the hot temperature took its toll. Teammate Robert Krebs only got better as the race went on and ended up finishing in 18th place with a time of 30:41.58. Scott Fauble came in at 30:55.42 and was 21st in the race.
The next Pilot to compete is Jared Bassett. He will take on the field in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase later tonight. The first heat is set to go off at 9:30 p.m. CST; Bassett is scheduled to race in the second heat.
