SALEM, Ore--- In rain and wind, the Pilots kicked off their outdoor track and field season at the Willamette Opener this weekend. The blustery conditions failed to inhibit the Pilots from multiple heat wins, and the meet gave many young Pilots time to shine. Â

Sophomore Ben Forsee lit the track on fire with his last few laps in the men's 5,000-meter. Forsee pulled away from the lead pack and won the race in a time of 15:11.80. Fellow sophomores Andy Holstrom and Nick Schindler ran 15:46.92 and 16:17.98 in the same race, respectively.

Hannah Souders, also a sophomore, won the women's 400-meter in just over a minute, her final time clocking in at 1:00.54. Senior Sarah Ramirez was fourth in the race in 1:04.74.

Freshman Lindsay Tompkins secured victory in the women's 800-meter run with a 2:24.35. With a time of 4:47.63, teammate and freshman Anna Farello won her first outdoor race as a Pilot in the women's 1,500-meter.

The men's 800-meter featured junior Ryan Wilson. He won the race with a time of 1:57.65.

Sweeping the men's 400-meter was the Pilot trio of Kent Nowak, Shane Fekete, and Mark Roetcisoender. The group posted times of 50.87, 50.89, and 51.12, respectively.

The Pilots brought their brooms out in the men's 1,500-meter, as well. Timo Goehler (3:59.45), Justin Rocerto (4:01.24), and Connor Whan (4:06.89) swept the podium in the race.

Next weekend, the Pilots head to Corvallis for the Oregon State Invitational.
