PORTLAND, Ore--- In the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, the team computer ranking system has the Pilot men's track team ranked at 48th nationally. Portland has compiled 47.62 points this season and is behind only BYU (6th) for WCC teams in the national poll. The Pilots rank ahead of many PAC-12 teams, as well. Washington is ranked 59th, Colorado is currently 61st, and Stanford comes in at 107th in the nation. The full rankings can be found
here.
Team rankings scores do not mirror the points systems used at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, but rather measure team depth in a national championship setting based on their student-athletes' positioning on the national descending order lists. A more detailed explanation can be found
here. Both David Perry and Scott Fauble have some of the highest-ranked national 10,000-meter times and, thus, help improve Portland's score.
"I think most people view us as only a cross country program but that is obviously not the case," said head coach Rob Conner. "We have a pretty well rounded track and field team, and we are having a great season. With finals this week, the athletes are looking forward to peak performances in May."The Pilots will look to increase their national standing this Friday at the Oregon State High Performance meet in Corvallis, Ore.
