Women's ScheduleSALEM, Ore. --- Members of the Portland men's and women's track and field teams headed down I-5 to Willamette University to compete in the Willamette Invitational on Saturday. The unusually warm weather boded well for the Pilots as senior sprinter/jumper Katherine Maus set multiple records.
Maus started the day by winning the triple jump with a distance of 12.39 meters or 40'7.75 feet, a mark that puts her in the top 20 on the year for D1 competition. This jump set a new school record and topped the stadium record (11.98) which she set last year. Thirty minutes later Maus sprinted her way to a second place finish in the 100 meter with a new school record of 12.27 seconds.
Pilots stood out in other events as Korey Thieleke placed second in the 200 meter with a time of 21.49, while Gavin Flynn (800 meter, 1:56.03) and Hannah Souders (200 meter, 26.20) each placed 10
th in their respective events.
Portland had a plethora of runners in the distance events. Taryn Rawlings led the Pilots in the 1500 meter crossing the line fifth in a time of 4:29.54. In the men's 1500 meter, Chris Borg placed ninth with a time of 3:53.22 while Justin Rocereto finished in 11
th with a time of 3:55.02. Marci Witczak led Portland in the 5000 meter with a time of 17:12.15 and Alex Dillard led the men in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:19.80 and a fourth place finish.
Portland will continue the season next Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Invitational where cross country All-Americans Tansey Lystad and Scott Fauble will make their outdoor debut.
