SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the third consecutive year, the West Coast Conference will offer comprehensive broadcast coverage of the 2016-17 men's basketball season. Every game during conference play will be televised on a national or regional level, and/or produced for broadcast on the conference's digital network,
TheW.tv. Portland will have a minimum of 14 nationally or regionally televised contests, with the complete Pilots broadcast schedule expected to be finalized soon.
The WCC will have 16 regular season games broadcasted on ESPN Networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU), with Portland's home game against Saint Mary's airing on ESPNU on January 12. The Pilots will also have national exposure as part of the 2016 Wooden Legacy tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. The team's opening matchup against UCLA will be televised on ESPN2, while all other tournament games will be aired on the ESPN family of networks.
"The WCC has one of the best television deals nationally for college basketball," Portland head coach Terry Porter said. "Our national partnership with ESPN is extremely rewarding and valuable, while our regional television partners put Pilot Basketball on the map regularly throughout the West Coast in every major market. Our digital network also is among the best platforms in the nation and allows us to showcase our product to an international audience."
In addition to the current regional television package, the Pilots have a strong partnership with CSN Northwest and will look to add additional games to that network. Portland Athletics hosts a monthly show on CSN-NW titled
Portside with the Pilots. Next month's show will preview the upcoming basketball season with a focus on first-year head coach Terry Porter.
A minimum of 49 additional WCC games will air on regional television through conference and school partnerships with Spectrum SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet, ROOT Sports and BYUtv - along with the West Coast Conference Game of the Week. Additional televised games will be added throughout the season and will be updated on the 2016-17 WCCsports.com schedule.
As part of the WCC's long-term deal with Spectrum SportsNet (formerly Time Warner Cable Sports), the broadcast home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers, will produce and air a West Coast Conference Game of the Week each Saturday during WCC play. The Game of the Week will be distributed to television partners throughout the WCC footprint - up to 20 million homes in all. Those games will also be available live to WCC fans outside of school television markets for free on TheW.tv.
WCC This Week – a weekly half-hour show dedicated to WCC basketball – airs in each market every Saturday during conference play leading up to the Game of the Week. WCC This Week makes its 2016-17 debut Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. PT.
In all, TheW.tv, on Campus Insiders, will air well over 100 WCC men's basketball games this season (68 conference games) produced in HD television quality for the digital platform. Other regional television broadcasts can be seen out-of-market on TheW.tv. All broadcasts on TheW.tv are available free of charge, and can be found on-line, on smart phones and tablets, and through connected TVs.
WCC play begins on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Additional out-of-market outlets will be added as they become available. For the most up-to-date schedule with game times and TV listings, visit WCCsports.com or follow
