SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland sophomore Michail Pervolarakis has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The Cyprus native led the Pilots to home sweeps over Seattle and Idaho.
Pervolarakis went 2-0 with straight sets wins at the No. 1 singles spot to claim the first weekly singles honor. He earned a 6-2, 6-3 win Friday against Seattle before winning 6-2, 6-4 Saturday against Idaho. Pervolarakis has now won three consecutive singles matches, including a win over Washington's nationally-ranked top player the previous week.
The Pilots are now 3-3 on the young season with a pair of 4-3 losses to nationally ranked teams.
Portland will open WCC play this Saturday at home against Gonzaga. The match is scheduled for a noon start at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. Live stats and live video will be available for free on PortlandPilots.com.
