PORTLAND, Ore. – The San Diego Toreros won a marathon women's tennis match over the Portland Pilots, pulling out a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Toreros improve to 7-6 overall, 4-2 in West Coast Conference play, while the Pilots drop to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.

It was a day of comebacks throughout as the tone was set in doubles play. Portland went up early with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles courtesy of seniors Lucia Butkovska and Maja Mladenovic. The Toreros responded with 6-3 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to take the doubles point.

Singles action opened with Butkovska racing to a straight sets win at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Radina Dimitrova then overcame a first set loss to put the Pilots on top 2-1 with a victory at No. 2. San Diego evened the score when Drew Spinosa outlasted Mladenovic in a three-setter at No. 3.

Pilot freshman Tatiana Grigoryan made it 3-2 Portland with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles setting up the final two matches. San Diego would win both in straight sets, although each were down to the wire.

Portland will look to re-group and continue WCC play with a road trip to the Bay Area next weekend. The Pilots visit San Francisco on Friday at noon and then Santa Clara on Saturday at 11 a.m.
