PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots varsity eight and second eight crews will make their annual trek to San Diego, Calif., this weekend for the prominent San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. The two-day event begins on Saturday morning.
 
"This will be our third year at the San Diego Crew Classic," said Portland head coach Pasha Spencer. "It's an exciting race to be lined up with crews from across the country."
 
Both the varsity eight and second eight competitions are comprised of three heats each. The Pilots' first eight will race at 7:44 a.m. on Saturday and will compete against Tennessee, LMU, Fordham and Purdue.
 
Portland's second eight will race against Cal, Wisconsin, San Diego, San Diego State, Sacramento State and UC San Diego at 9:44 a.m.
 
Other crews competing include Miami, Kansas State, Saint Mary's, George Washington, Santa Clara, St. Joseph's, Old Dominion, Villanova, Humboldt State, Gonzaga, UCLA, Texas, USC, Washington State, Tennessee and British Columbia.
 
The top two boats in each heat will advance to Sunday's grand final, while the rest will compete in the petite finals, which are also scheduled for Sunday.
