SPOKANE, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Gonzaga on Saturday to conclude the 2016 spring dual season. The Pilots finish 7-13 overall and 3-6 in West Coast Conference matches.

The Bulldogs (16-4, 6-3 WCC) will enter the six-team WCC Championships next week as the No. 2 seed with a first round bye.

Portland had seven seniors on the 2015-16 roster and five took the court in the final match on Saturday.

Senior Lucia Butkovska posted Portland's point as she defeated Sophie Whittle at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2. Butkovska entered the match ranked No. 68 nationally and now will wait to see if she qualifies as an individual to the NCAA Championships. She improved to 13-3 in dual singles and 7-2 against league foes.

Gonzaga concluded its best regular season in program history with an emotional Senior Day for its three graduating players. The Bulldogs took the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 followed by a 6-4 win at No. 2.

Dominique Garley then made it 2-0 Gonzaga with a straight sets win at No. 6 singles. Butkovska cut the margin in half with her victory, but the Bulldogs finished the match with wins by Alex Bourguignon and senior Samantha Polayes at the No. 4 and No. 2 spots, respectively.

The 2016 WCC Tennis Championships will be held April 28-30 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.
