PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team will send a pair of crews to Seattle, Wash., this weekend for the 2016 Windermere Cup, which is set for Saturday on Lake Washington. The Pilots will race their varsity eight and the varsity four while in the Emerald City.

The varsity four race is scheduled to begin at 10:57 a.m., and the third varsity eight event will follow at 11:06 a.m.

The races are held as part of the celebration of Seattle's Opening Day of Boating Season and are followed by the Seattle Yacht Club's Opening Day Boat Parade. More than 800 rowers compete in this prestigious event, which culminates with the women's and men's Windermere Cup races.

Admission to the event is free, and viewing is available on the shores of the Montlake Cut, or by boats anchored to a log boom in Lake Washington.

In the varsity four event, the Pilots will race against crews from Washington, San Diego, and Victoria. Portland's varsity eight will be competing against Western Washington, Seattle and Washington.
