PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team picked up its first win of the dual season with a 6-1 victory over the Portland State Vikings Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.

The Pilots (1-2) secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

In singles play, the Pilots earned straight set wins at the top of the lineup from Radina Dimitrova, Jelena Lazarevic, Emily Soares and Tatiana Grigoryan. Freshman Anna Oberg overcame a first set loss to win in a third set super-tiebreaker.

Taylor Rees earned the lone point for the Vikings (0-1) at No. 6 singles.

Portland played without freshmen Jelena Lukic, the team's No. 1 player in the lineup for the first two matches of the season, due to injury.

"Going into this match we knew that it was going to be very tough as we were without one of our best players," Portland head coach Susie Campbell said. "The team responded as well as we could have hoped for and we played some great tennis today. We have done a lot of work over the past four months and I believe that it is really starting to show in how we approach matches, how we compete, and how we play. We are very proud of our effort today."

Portland will next take the court at Washington on Saturday, Jan. 28 at noon.
