TULSA, Okla. – Portland men's tennis senior Michail Pervolarakis won his first round singles match in straight sets and then partnered with teammate Mathieu Garcia for a doubles win on Monday in the Qualifying Draws of the
Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.
Pervolarakis, ranked No. 95 in the
ITA Preseason Singles Rankings, defeated Georgia's Robert Loeb 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round of the Qualifying Singles Draw. He advances to face Ohio State's John McNally in Tuesday's second round action at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. McNally, ranked No. 923 in the
ATP World Rankings, is the No. 2-ranked newcomer in college tennis according to the
ITA Preseason Rankings.
The winner of that morning match will advance and take on the winner of No. 58-ranked Haru Inoue (Wichita State) and Josh Goodger (Tulsa) in the afternoon for a chance to move into the Main Draw, scheduled for Oct. 5-9.
In doubles, the Pilot duo opened with a 7-5, 6-4 win against the Texas Tech tandem of Tommy Mylnikov and Alex Sendegeya in the early session. Pervolarakis and Garcia then were knocked out by the No. 51 ranked team in the nation, McNally and JJ Wolf of Ohio State, in the second round.
The Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships annually feature the top talent from around the nation. Portland's last representation at the event was in 2001 where Travis Parrott participated in singles and teamed with Peter Malacek for doubles.
