STOCKTON, Calif. – Portland senior Michail Pervolarakis cruised to a pair of straight set wins on Sunday to become the second player in program history to advance to the finals of ITA Northwest Regionals. Pervolarakis defeated a pair of opponents from California, knocking off Jacob Brumm in the quarterfinals and then Paul Barretto in the semifinals.

Pervolarakis joins Matt Loucks, who reached the finals in 2004, as the only Pilots to advance to the title match of the prestigious fall event.

The tournament's No. 2 seed and ranked No. 95 nationally, Pervolarakis found his groove on Sunday after being pushed to three sets in his three previous victories in the tournament. He cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 8 seeded Jacob Brumm and then took down No. 12 seed Paul Barretto by a 6-3, 6-2 margin.

The finals match will be against another Cal player, No. 5 seed Jack Malloy, on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

"Tennis is a crazy game," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Twenty-four hours earlier he was one swing of the racket from being out of the tournament. A day later after two dominant performances against good players, he is in the finals. Mike played at a super high level today. It is awesome he is going to have the opportunity to compete for the championship on Monday."

Last year, the Pilots also had a strong performance at ITA Regionals with four players reaching the Round of 32. Portland joined Cal as the only two programs with multiple quarterfinalists as Mathieu Garcia reached the quarters and Pervolarakis was a semifinalist.
