PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team launched their fall season at the Portland Fall Classic on the Willamette River in downtown Portland Sunday morning. The Pilots raced six boats at the Fall Classic, which was a head race on a 5,000 meter course.
 
Portland's varsity eight began the day, with Miranda Reyes at coxswain and Veronica Nicacio rowing stroke. The Pilots posted a time of 18:54.185, which was second to Oregon State and faster than Seattle U. Next up for the Pilots was a second eight, and that boat posted a time of 19:52.099. Oregon State finished first in that event as well, and the Portland boat was coxed by Alice Chang.
 
The Pilots' varsity four was the next boat in the water, and they covered the course in time of 23:36.485. A pair of Oregon State crews placed first and second, and Seattle U finished behind the Pilots.
 
Portland's second four claimed a time of 24:15.623, and a novice eight (25:24.658) and novice four (32:41.110) capped a busy day for the Pilots. The novice eight had Claire McKinnon in the coxswain seat and Erin Lynch rowing stroke.
 
The starting line for the Portland Fall Classic was located on the Holgate Channel of the Willamette River behind Ross Island. The course headed north and the finish line was near the floating section of the Eastbank Esplanade between the Burnside and Steel Bridges.
 
The Pilots next navigate north for the Head of the Lake, which is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5 in Seattle, Wash.
