PALM DESERT, Calif. – Portland senior Michail Pervolarakis earned a spot in the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships men's singles tournament scheduled for Nov. 1-5. The 64-player singles draw will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle. Pervolarakis earned his qualification by winning the ITA Northwest Regional Championship hosted at Pacific. A full breakdown of the selection criteria is available
here.
Pervolarakis will face Stefan Milicevic of Minnesota, the ITA Central Regional champion, in the Round of 64 on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Live scoring of that and all tournament matches will be available at this link.
"Obviously it's an honor that is really well deserved and earned by Mike with his performance the last few years and this fall," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Tennis is a sport where it pays to put a bunch of pressure on yourself to produce results. Generally, those results are the culmination of all the little details that a player works out every single day. Mike has been consistent with us for since he arrived on campus and going into this tournament is no different. He has the potential to beat anyone in the draw, but there is also the potential to lose. Nearly everybody in this tournament is a very good player so all he can really do is prepare as he has and go down there and play as hard as he can. There isn't a lot of representation from mid major schools at events like this and I think we carry the underdog role proudly. Mike has the quiet confidence of knowing that he can beat anyone and that he can compete with anyone across the net."
Pervolarakis is the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year after leading the Pilots to their first league regular season title in 2017. He entered the fall season ranked No. 95 in the
ITA Preseason Singles Rankings and has posted a 9-2 record thus far and 2-1 mark against ranked foes.
Draws, schedule of play, daily recaps and photo gallery links can be found on the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships
event page. Live scoring via Tennis Ticker will be available at both site locations, while TempuZ will provide live streaming coverage from two courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
