PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team travels to San Diego, Calif., this weekend for their final event of the fall, which is the San Diego Fall Classic on Sunday morning on Mission Bay. The Pilots will race four boats while in San Diego.
Â
"I'm glad we didn't end our season with last weekend's Head of the Lake in Seattle," Portland head coach Pasha Spencer said. "We're looking forward to having more race experience for the team."
Â
The San Diego Fall Classic navigates around Mission Bay, and Portland will begin the day by putting two eights on the water. Emma Papenhausen slides into the coxswain seat for the varsity eight, which will feature Veronica Nicacio at the stroke. The second eight will be coxed by Miranda Reyes, and Lauren Formigli will be rowing stroke. The eights' race is scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
Â
A pair of fours will follow for the Pilots, with that event scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The fours' two coxswains are Alice Chang and Alyssa Soete.
Â
Other crews competing at the San Diego Fall Classic include San Diego, San Diego State, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
Â
The SD Fall Classic concludes the fall portion of the schedule for the Pilots, who also rowed at the Portland Fall Classic in October and at last weekend's Head of the Lake, which was shortened due to inclement weather in Seattle.
