SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team concluded the fall portion of their schedule by putting four boats in the water at the San Diego Fall Classic, which took place on Sunday morning on Mission Bay. It was a loaded field that featured 15 boats in the eights race and 20 crews in the fours.
 
"We had great racing this weekend, which is showing new depth on this team from the eights to the fours," Portland head coach Pasha Spencer said. "We have recruits in every class this year, and it's exciting to see everyone pushing to get faster."
 
In the eights, Portland's 'A' and 'B' boats finished fourth and seventh overall, posting times of 17:42.891 and 17:53.162, respectively. San Diego State finished on top of the field, and West Coast Conference foe San Diego placed just one spot ahead of the Pilots' two boats. Finishing behind the Pilots were crews from San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
 
Portland's varsity eight had Emma Papenhausen in the cox seat and Veronica Nicacio at stroke, while the second eight was coxed by Miranda Reyes and had Lauren Formigli rowing stroke.
 
Portland also raced a pair of fours Sunday morning with the varsity crew covering the course in a time of 20:30.197. That was good enough to finish ahead of UC San Diego and Long Beach State, and Portland's second four was a few spots back with a time of 20:46.367. The two fours were coxed by Alice Chang and Alyssa Soete, and a boat from USC posted the day's fastest time. Finishing behind the Pilots were boats from San Diego, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Arizona State.
 
The San Diego Fall classic was the final event of Portland's scheduled, which also featured the Portland Fall Classic and the Head of the Lake in Seattle.
