PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team will spend the weekend in Seattle, Wash., for the Head of the Lake, which is scheduled for Sunday morning near the campus of the University of Washington. The Pilots will put five boats on the water while in the Emerald City.
 
The three-mile course starts in Lake Union before winding beneath the University Bridge into Portage Bay and through the Montlake Cut to Lake Washington. That's where the course turns back toward Husky Stadium to the finish line near the entrance to Conibear Shellhouse on Union Bay.
 
Portland's varsity eight, with Miranda Reyes in the coxswain seat, begins the day for the Pilots at 8:06 a.m. Other crews racing a varsity eight include two boats from Washington, Washington State, West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga, Seattle U, Oregon, UC San Diego, and Oregon State.
 
Up next is Portland's second eight, which is coxed by freshman Emma Papenhausen, and the Pilots will face boats Washington, Washington State, and Gonzaga. The novice eight and coxswain Claire McKinnon follows and will compete against Washington State, Seattle U, Gonzaga, and Seattle Pacific, which will race a pair of boats.
 
Alice Chang will be in the coxswain seat for Portland's varsity four, which is set to race at 8:51 a.m. Portland will have two boats in the field, and the second four will be coxed by Alyssa Soete. Gonzaga and Oregon State will also race a pair of boats, while Seattle U and Washington complete the line-up.
