PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's tennis team were dominant in a 7-0 sweep of the Eastern Washington Eagles Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 5-1 overall, while the Eagles fall to 4-3.
Portland swept the doubles point and then won all six singles matches in straight sets.
"We played well overall today," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "EWU has been playing well lately after coming off of a couple of big conference wins. We struggled a little bit in Seattle last weekend and then put in a really hard week of training on- and off-the-court, so our legs are feeling it a little bit. I think that training is what we need at this point in the season since we are going to be coming up into a long competitive stretch here very soon.
"Mike really stood out today. He lost a tough one last weekend, but worked his butt off this week and came out very resolved today. The player he beat is legit and he won very handily. It was great to see him really step up."
Portland will return to the court next Saturday in Seattle for a neutral site matchup with Nevada.
