SEATTLE, Wash. --- Portland's varsity eight crew led the way for the Pilots with a solid time in their event at the Husky Open on Saturday morning on the Montlake Cut. The varsity eight was one of four Portland boats to race in the Emerald City.

UP's varsity eight, which was coxed by Miranda Reyes and had Veronica Nicacio rowing stroke, covered the course with the day's second fastest time among collegiate crews, posting a time of 6:45.390. Only the host and fourth-ranked Washington Huskies were faster, finishing on top of the field with a mark of 6:42.854.

Portland's second eight has shaved a significant amount off their time this spring, and on Saturday they covered the 2,000 meters in 7:05.046. The boat had Alice Chang in the cox seat and Sydne Jacoby at the stroke, and Washington finished first in that event as well.

The novice eight was next, and they claimed a time of 7:31.593, which was second only to Seattle U. Claire McKinnon was coxing for the Pilots, while Clare Hodge rowed stroke.

Capping the day for the Pilots was the varsity four, and they also finished second with a time of 8:05.980. Puget Sound was just ahead of the Pilots in first.

In two weeks, the Pilots return to the water when they travel to Dexter Lake just outside of Eugene, Ore., for the Covered Bridge Regatta, which is schedule for Saturday, April 15.
