PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots defeated the Pacific Tigers by a 4-1 margin on Friday in West Coast Conference action at the St. Johns Racquet Center. The Pilots improve to 7-9 overall and are now 3-3 in WCC play, while the Tigers fall to 5-12 overall and 0-6 in league matches.

Portland set the tone early with a dominating effort in doubles play. Freshmen Emily Soares and Anna Oberg cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles and then freshman Jelena Lukic and senior Jelena Lazarevic clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 1. Portland's No. 2 tandem of sophomores Radina Dimitrova and Tatiana Grigoryan were leading 5-2 when the point was clinched.

The Pilots got off to a sluggish start in singles, but Lukic rallied off four straight games to win the first set against Maayan Sela at No. 1 singles by a 6-4 margin. She then breezed to a 6-1 second set giving Portland a 2-0 lead.

Lazarevic fought back from down 5-2 to win the first set in a tiebreaker and then came back again in the second set for a 7-5 victory over Anneroos Nederstigt at No. 3 singles.

Pacific earned their lone point at No. 2 singles where Anna Ramos Vinolas outlasted Dimitrova 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.

Grigoryan clinched the match for the Pilots with a three set win over Christina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz at the No. 4 position.

Portland continues its busy Easter weekend by hosting the Saint Mary's Gaels on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center and then welcomes Sacramento State in a non-conference match on Sunday at the St. Johns Racquet Center at 10 a.m.
