REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – Senior Anna Farello was named the 2017 Women's West Coast Conference Postgraduate Scholarship recipient by the Executive and Presidents' Councils at the eighth annual WCC Honors Dinner this past weekend. Farello is the ninth Pilot to have captured the award, following Scott Fauble who won the award in 2015.
Farello graduated from UP in May with a 3.98 GPA, majoring in Psychology and Spanish, while also earning a minor in Biology. She was twice voted by her teammates as Most Inspirational and also earned All-WCC honorable mention in her final cross country season. In 2016, she was a member of the WCC championship team that reached the NCAA championship for the first time in program history. Farello finished in 12th at the WCC championship and 28th at the NCAA West Regionals.
The senior also had a successful track season, qualifying for the West Preliminaries in the 10,000m. She ends her career third all-time in the UP record books in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5,000m.
Academically, Farello has a long and impressive list of accomplishments. A member of the Portland's Honors Program, she was on the Dean's List from 2013-2016 and had a perfect 4.0 in five semesters while also achieving the highest student-athlete GPA in the College of Arts & Sciences in 2014. Farello was a WCC All-Academic honorable mention member from 2014-2016 and was awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2016, as well as the Spring Play it Forward Award winner by the Oregon Sports Awards. In addition, she was also an academic tutor for Portland student-athletes while being on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2014-2017.
Farello will be attending Ball State University pursuing a masters degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, starting in the fall of 2017.
To be eligible for a WCC Postgraduate Scholarship, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, demonstrate significant athletic contributions to his or her sport for a minimum of two years, and have a record of participation in campus or community activities. He or she also must submit a personal statement of intention to attend graduate or professional school for which this scholarship would be awarded.
