SEATTLE, Wash. –  Recent University of Portland Graduate and Computer Science Major Jenna Phillips won a Northwest Emmy® Award as announced by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Saturday night at the 2017 Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards in Seattle, Wash.

Phillips' feature "UP Women's Soccer's Sarah Jones' Summer Internship" won the "News: General Assignment Light" category as part of the 2017 College Award Nominations. The feature originally aired on June 15, 2016 on our monthly television show "Portside With The Pilots" on CSN.

"We are so happy for Jenna," said Jason Brough, Portland's Associate Athletic Director for Public Relations. "Jenna is a great example of the type of student we attract to work on our video team and has been a valuable part of our growth over the last few years. She was excited to learn new skills and pushed for more and more responsibilities. For her to be rewarded with a Northwest Emmy® Award is very deserving."

"I am completely honored to receive this award and owe my success to the Portland Sports Network, specifically to Jose Nevarez and James Vega. I can honestly say that everything I have learned in the video production industry has been from the these two," said Jenna Phillips. "I joined the athletic department on a whim while job-searching as a freshman not knowing how much I would enjoy this position and how much I would learn. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to receive this award and to have grown as much as I have in these four years at the University of Portland."

Last year, PSN was nominated for three Northwest Emmy® Awards, one in the Sports – Feature/Segment category and two in the Northwest Regional College Student Awards division. UP Senior Riley Clark won an Emmy® in the Students Awards Division for his feature "University of Portland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Raises Money for St. Baldrick's Foundation" that aired on "Portside With The Pilots."
