PORTLAND, Ore. --- Two-Time Olympian & Silver/Bronze Medalist Courtney Thompson spent a day with the UP volleyball team last week, working with the team on mindfulness and confidence. A three-time AVCA All-American setter and NCAA National Champion at the University of Washington, Thompson now works for Compete to Create, a company founded by NFL Coach Pete Carroll.
"We have made a commitment this year as a staff and team to not only train the body, but also the mind," said head coach Brent Crouch. "We've begun daily 10 minute meditation session as a team, and are learning a new common language that allows us to address previously undisclosed facets of our lives as players, students, and coaches. I think it's a game changer for our program. Courtney Thompson is a big proponent of our work having engaged in similar practices with the USA national team. We were so fortunate for her to join us and share more about how we can incorporate mindfulness and positive self-talk into our daily lives. She's such a great teacher and role model. Our players raved about her after her visit, and are more committed than ever to our new training regimen."
Compete to Create's mission is to help people be the best they can be through high performance mindset training and coaching. Thompson works alongside other former Olympians and licensed psychologists to help teams and corporations reach their full potential by practicing mindfulness. Throughout training camp, the UP Volleyball team has made mindfulness a focus going into the season, and Thompson drew on her own collegiate and Olympic experiences to help put mindfulness into perspective in the volleyball world.
