SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 24-ranked Washington women's tennis team defeated the Portland Pilots by a 5-0 margin on Sunday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Huskies improved to to 6-2 with the win, while the Pilots fall to 1-4 overall.

Washington features two singles players ranked in the top 40 nationally, while its two losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10 nationally.

The Huskies grabbed the doubles point with 6-2 wins at all three positions to go ahead 1-0.

No. 11 Stacey Fung defeated Jelena Lukic 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position, while Miki Kobayashi defeated Pilot freshman Raphaelle Leblanc by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at No. 3.

The Huskies clinched with Alexis Prokopuik and Kenadi Hance winning nearly simultaneously at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions against freshman Lourdes Ramalle and Emily Soares, respectively.

Portland junior Radina Dimitrova battled No. 36-ranked Vanessa Wong at the No. 2 spot, falling 6-2 in the first set and trailing 4-3 in the second at the conclusion of play.

Pilot freshman Nina Nikitovic dropped the first set to Katarina Kopcalic at No. 6, but was tied 4-4 in the second when the match was called.

Portland will take a week off before hosting BYU to open West Coast Conference play on Friday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. The Pilots will then host San Jose State on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m. All Portland home matches have live video and scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
