PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men and women's track and field team will open their outdoor season this weekend at the Linfield IceBreaker and the Willamette Open, in McMinnville and Salem, Ore.
Â
The men will compete first for the Pilots on Friday at Linfield in the 10,000m and then continue competition Saturday at Willamette in the 1500m and 5000m.
Â
The women will then begin competition on Saturday, also at the Willamette Open. The Pilots will compete in the 100m, 200m and 400m short distance events, but begin the day with their only long distance event for the weekend, the 1500m. Junior Courtney Vacek and sophomore Maya Murphy-Cook will also compete in the triple jump and high jump, respectively.
Â
"This is a nice, low-key start to the outdoor season," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "We will train through it and gear up for the bigger meets later this month."
