Hey UP community,
My name is Lisa Okazaki and I am currently in my senior year at the University of Portland. My major is Civil Engineering, which has been tough balancing it with golf, but with the amazing support from the athletic department, family and friends I have been able to pull through. Being on the golf team here at UP has been an amazing experience and I am optimistic for the year to come.
The team this year welcomes back Sandra, Rachel, Avery, Mckennon, Bridget and I. We are also adding a recruit, Sara. We have high hopes for the team this year and expect some great memories aka trophies, and more pictures to come! This is just a photo of a fun trip we took to Bend, Oregon last fall.
We have just finished our first week back at school and it’s been a stressful one at that. Our golf season has started sooner than normal and to start the first days of golf back with UP we had qualifying. Basically on the women’s golf team we must qualify to attend a tournament. There are seven amazing girls on the team but only five girls travel at a time. We held qualifying at two of our home courses, Heron Lakes (Great Blue course) and Pumpkin Ridge (Witch Course). The first day was quite grueling because we all needed to re-acclimate ourselves with some typical Portland weather, RAIN! The next two days we were able to enjoy some awesome sunny weather and while at Pumpkin Ridge we encountered a really cute beaver enjoying the sun as well, which made our day. He was chilling next to the lake, “motor-boating the grass” as one of my teammates likes to put it.
As I write this, the team is currently in Bozeman, Montana preparing to play in the 2010 Bobcat Invitational hosted by Montana State University. There will be two days of 18-hole rounds in what seems to be some exciting weather. Expected snow storms as well as thunder storms, it should be interesting to see what happens.
Stay tuned in for more updates on the team and the exciting life of a UP golfer.
