Prep school point guard Eric Waterford has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Portland and will join the Pilots as an incoming freshman this fall, head coach Eric Reveno announced on Friday. Waterford (6-0, 175) graduated in 2007 from Modesto Christian High School (Modesto, Calif.) before playing last year at St. Thomas More School (Oakdale, Conn.) in the same league as recently signed Pilot, John Hegarty.

The University of Portland men's basketball team has been getting up early and working hard with Director of Athletic Performance, Brad Scott. The team has been doing daily voluntary morning workouts with Coach Scott that range from agility/quickness drills, sprints, weight training, and even some unique tire drills.

Portland men’s basketball head coach Eric Reveno, regarded as one of the best big man coaches in the nation, will have another intriguing post player to work with as the Pilots have signed John Hegarty to a National Letter of Intent. Hegarty (7-1, 365) makes the cross country trip to Portland after spending the past two seasons at The Winchendon School (Winchendon, Mass.).

Former University of Portland standout guard Erik Spoelstra was named the head coach of the Miami Heat on Monday, succeeding Pat Riley who retired from the bench but will remain with the franchise in the capacity of team president. Spoelstra, a 1992 graduate of Portland, has served as an assistant coach with the Heat since 1997.
