University of Portland junior Adrienne Nova clocked a 16:47.46 in the 5,000-meter run on Friday at the Oregon Relays to qualify for the NCAA West Regional. Nova bested her previous personal best by 28 seconds and posted the sixth best time in Portland history.

Portland Pilots sophomore Dana Morgan posted a NCAA regional qualifying time of 16:30.44 in the 5,000 meter run Friday at the Stanford Invitational hosted at Cobb Track and Angel Field.

Sophomores Natalie Hemphill and Dana Morgan headlined a strong University of Portland showing at the 2008 Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton at Mt San Antonio College last weekend. Hemphill won the steeplechase with a regional qualifying time, while Morgan captured the 1,500-meter title.

The University of Portland men’s and women’s track teams will be at the UW Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility. Men’s head coach Rob Conner returns to lead the men’s program after successfully donating a kidney in an exchange program for his mother two weeks ago.

For the second consecutive year, the Portland track and field program had both its men’s and women’s teams earn All-Academic Team awards from the USTFCCCA. The men’s program posted the third best team grade-point average in the nation, while the women had the sixth best cumulative average.
