PORTLAND, Ore. --- Three high school baseball players from the state of Oregon have committed to the University of Portland baseball program, announced head coach Chris Sperry. Bo Cornish (C, Hillsboro, Ore.), Turner Gill (INF, Madras, Ore.) and Zach Nice (RHP, La Grande, Ore.) have each signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pilots next fall.

The University of Portland baseball program will hold its annual Mid-Winter Developmental High School Prospect Camp December 27-30, 2009 on the University campus. The Youth Strictly Hitting Camp, which is made up of two sessions, will run Dec. 18-20 (Session #1) and Jan. 15-17, 2010 (Session #2), while the Youth Pitching/Throwing Camp will take place on Dec. 21.

With the conclusion of the 2008-09 academic year, the West Coast Conference announced the 2009 Spring All-Academic teams and six University of Portland student-athletes were recognized. Rocky Gale, Bryant Kraus and Chase Powell were named to the WCC All-Academic Baseball Team, Paige Rachor was a golf selection, while Evan Schleining and Stefanie Doolittle earned tennis honors.

A senior at Pinnacle High School, McCallister has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pilots as a freshman next fall.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Senior Cort Carpenter, sophomores Riley Henricks and Zach Varce and freshman Kris Kauppila each earned All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention, while Kauppila and freshman hurler Kyle Kraus landed on the league’s all-freshman team. It’s easily the most Pilots to earn all-conference recognition since UP joined the WCC for baseball in 1996.
