University of Portland cross country standout Tommy Betterbed was named the West Coast Conference Mike Gilleran Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was also presented with the WCC Postgraduate Scholarship, league commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced on Thursday. He is the first student-athlete to earn both distinctions in WCC history.

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – University of Portland freshman Trevor Dunbar was the top USA finisher and placed 29th overall at the IAAF World Cross Country Junior Championships on Sunday, March 28th. Among a field of 121 athletes from 30 different countries, Dunbar finished second among all competitors from the Western Hemisphere.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Tommy Betterbed and freshman Joash Osoro have been named Academic All Americans as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. Betterbed and Osoro are among 58 given All-Academic status for the 2009 cross country season for their efforts in the classroom and on nation’s cross country courses.
