PORTLAND, Ore. --- Former Portland men’s soccer standout Logan Emory has signed to play with the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USSF D2 Pro League, which is the second tier of the American and Canadian professional soccer pyramids below Major League Soccer. Emory has been training with the Islanders for two weeks and is expected to play center back.
“I’m just extremely happy and fortunate to have this opportunity,” said Emory, who just wrapped-up his four-year career with the Pilots. “My four years at UP really helped me grow and mature as a soccer player. I hope to make the most of this opportunity and I hope to take it to the next level.”
The Islanders play in the USL Conference of the USSF D2 Pro League, which is the same division as the Portland Timbers. The Islanders begin their regular season at home on April 21 and they’re scheduled to play the Timbers in Portland on September 2.
Emory signed a one-year contract with Puerto Rico with the option of a second year. But he says he hopes his career takes him even higher.
“I kind of look at this as getting my foot in the door,” Emory said. “My goal is always going to be to play at the highest level possible.”
